Compostable packaging
The City of Hobart has a by-law that bans certain single-use plastic food packaging throughout Hobart, with the goal to reduce plastic litter and waste going to landfill. As part of the City of Hobart’s Single-Use-Plastic By-Law and in accordance with the City of Hobart’s commitment to zero waste to landfill by 2030 Salamanca Market has strict packaging requirements for stallholders.
- All takeaway food and beverage packaging must be certified 100% compostable (unless recyclable, e.g. cans, plastic and glass bottles).
- All items used to provide tastings to customers on your stall must be certified 100% compostable.
- Stallholders are not permitted to provide plastic bags for customer use. Paper or compostable bags and cardboard boxes are accepted.
- Stallholders are not permitted to use or provide balloons.
- Stallholders are encouraged to completely remove plastic from their business operation.
